CHAMPIONSHIPS: (Shane Stokes June 12) National champion Robin Seymour today
surpassed his own expectations when he rode strongly to finish 34th in the world
mountainbike championships in Sierra Nevada, Spain. Run off at 8,000 feet, the
29 year old coped well with the difficult altitude conditions to finish 16
minutes 39 seconds behind winner Miguel Martinez of France. The result is
an encouraging one for the Helly Hansen team rider, who will dispute the
mountainbike cross-country event in Sydney in September. Seymour went into the
race aiming to equal his 49th placing in last year's competition but performed
significantly better today. Fellow Irishman Philip McNamara finished one
lap behind the winner, in 69th position, while Richard McCauley pulled out of
the race. Wed 7th - Team Relay
