Irish Cycling Federation Kelly Roche House, 25th August 2000 PRESS RELEASE At a recent hearing conducted by the Irish Cycling Federation, a cyclist has been found guilty of using a banned substance, Ephedrine which is defined as a light stimulant. Russell Tracey from St. Finbarrs CC in Cork, gave a sample of body fluids under the auspices of the Irish Sports Council following The National Criterium Championships in Middleton Cork on the 9th July. The subsequent laboratory test of this sample showed a concentration of Ephedrine in excess of the permitted level. The Ephedrine had come from a dietary supplement, which he had purchased in a gymnasium and had been recommended to him by the gym owner as a fat burner. Russell has been disqualified from competition for 3 competitive months starting on August 10th till April 9th 2001. The Irish Cycling Federation is continuing to pursue its anti doping policy with the help and backing of the Irish Sports Council.
