SILVER FOR COUGHLAN IN WORLD MASTERS CHAMPS

Irish rider Simon Coughlin took an excellent silver medal in the 30-34 age group at the UCI Track Cycling Masters World Championships in Sydney, Australia on Wednesday.

Coughlin qualified second fastest in the 3000 metre event, recording a time of three minutes 38.8 seconds. Steven Sansonetti (Australia) clocked up three minutes 32.9 seconds and went over a second quicker to beat Coughlin in their ride for the gold medal. The Irishman posted three minutes 40.2 seconds there.

Coughlin has had a fine season, winning gold in the European Championship Masters pursuit at the start of August.
