A week for the off of the M Donnelly Junior Tour and the wheels of the organisation headed by Alice Sherratt are fine tuning their programme for the off on July 12th in Co. Mayo which has the longest coastline of any county in Ireland.

The Tour will have stage starts in some of the principal towns in the county. Within the last few days the organisation received a major boost with Ballina Streets & Arts Festival showing their support.

If there official launch in Dublins Westbury Hotel is anything to go by, the cycling fraternity will benefit. In creating the Festival which is over 10 days, the bike race is a new element. It will afford the opportunity for the younger generation to see the cyclists in close proximity. Hopefully the participants will tell their friends and relations of this extravaganza, said Claire Cooke PRO of the festival.

Also they can log on www.ballinastreetfestival.ie and get more info regarding the town is on the estuary of the Moy and is the largest town in the county.

The opening stage will be the custom and practice of many tours, a prologue which will be held in Castlebar where all the race personnel, will be ensconced for the six days of racing.

Race organiser Alice is now in the comfort one, everything is coming together. It is a great opportunity for the Irish juniors to have competition of this calibre particularly with the majority of the participants coming to Ireland courtesy of Stena Line. The new base in Castlebar is a real revelation, said Alice.
