Leg 2 of Invacare Paracycling Time Trial League in Blarney a great success.

Leg 2 H1-H2 Winner Mark Rohan

The sun came out on the 34 competitors in Rathpeacon near Blarney on Saturday for Leg 2 of the Invacare Paracycling Time Trial League hosted by Blarney CC and Rebel Wheelers.

Five handcycles took to the line in the Hi-H2 Category with UCI World Champion Mark Ronan taking 1st place closely followed by Darrell Erwin in 2nd and Declan Slevin 3rd. Paul Tobin took 1st in the H3-H4 Category with Bartley Walsh completing the short circuit on his first handcycling attempt.

On the Solo Bikes Enda Smyth took 1st place with Chris Burns in 2nd in the C1-C3 Category. In the C4-C5 Category Billy Walsh was 1st with Jerry Towey 2nd and Dominic Walls 3rd with newcomer Patrick Cummisky in 4th.

One of the highlights of the day was Diane White and Blarney man Mick O’ Mahony winning in the Female Tandem category. Mick was drafted in at the last minute as pilot for Diane and it was his first time on a tandem. Mick has found a new calling blasting to a fine 4th best time on the day overall.

The best Time on the day went to the Men’s Tandem Category pairing of John Goldrick and Denis Toomey who covered the 22k in 33-33 . 2nd in the male tandem was Martin Gordon and Karl Kiely.

The Rebel Wheelers all took to the road over a shorter course and were all cheered home by the crowd on the line .Mark Rohan and other members of Irish Paracycling Squad cycled with the kids to encourage them along. They will be the Paracyclists of the future. All the kids were presented with medals at the end and a lot of fun was had by all.

Winners All Rebel Wheelers with Paracycling TT Winners

A big thanks to Terry O’Neill and all the members of Blarney Cycling Club for hosting such a spectacular event. To Jerry O’Regan from the Rebel Wheelers for organising all the kids and the rest of the Rebel Wheelers Club who provided the refreshments.

A Big thanks to Frank O Leary Paracycling Development Coach who spearheaded the event and to the Commissar on the day Brian Jordan.

We can’t forget the Rathpeacon School, the Red Cross for the ambulance and the Gardai as we couldn’t run the event without them and our main sponsor for the series Invacare Ireland.
