2024 Irish Hill Climb National Championships - Preview
Press Release 2nd Oct 2024
The final national championship for 2024 takes places this Saturday. 5th of October. Hosted by Orwell Wheelers, the Hill Climb National Championships will see riders battle it out on the foothills of the Dublin Mountains, in the picturesque area of Tibradden.
Entries are high across all categories. 30 riders will compete in the Senior Open. Included in the entries is Conn McDunphy who took home the national championships jersey last year. Gareth O’Neill finished third in 2023 and will be keen to improve on this result on Saturday. Killian O’Brien and Stuart Millar both finished inside the top five last year and will be in action this weekend.
Annalise Murphy has shown great form across multiple disciplines, including winning the inaugural Gravel National Championships last month. She will race in the Women’s division. She faces tough competition from Sophie Daly and Niamh O’Dwyer who finished first and second in 2023.
In the M40 division, Stuart McCaughey will be hoping to retain his title from 2023. But he faces competition from Marcin Mizgajski who will be looking to improve on his third place finish from last year.
Having both finished on the podium last year in the M50 division Neil McKenna and Jerry McCarthy are ones to watch in what will be a competitive section.
It will be a similar scenario in the M60 where last year’s winner and runner-up, Jimmy Flynn and Tony Daly, will both be in action.
