Cycling Ireland is pleased to announce that Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal have been added to the Cycling Ireland Hall of Fame.

2024 marked the end of one of the greatest para-cycling tandem partnerships. Dunlevy and McCrystal certainly knew how to go out on a high, as they won Silver in the Women’s B 3000m Individual Pursuit at the 2024 Paralympic Games.

This result comes almost ten years after they won their first World Championship medal in 2015 at the UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships, which coincidentally was in the same event when they brought home Bronze.

Dunlevy and McCrystal went on to make headlines in 2016 at the Rio Paralympic Games winning Gold in the Women’s B Individual Time Trial and Silver in Women’s B Road Race. Their performance in Rio put them as one of the strongest para-cycling combinations in the world. Little did we know this was just the beginning.

Racing both on the road and track, Dunlevy and McCrystal went from strength to strength. They won six medals at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships between 2017 and 2019 – all bar one of these medals was Gold.

They claimed an additional four World Championship medals at UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships – three Bronze and one Silver.

Their Paralympic success was also unrivalled. Following on from Rio they won both the Women’s B Individual Time Trial and Road Race in Tokyo. If this wasn’t enough, they also finished second in the Women’s B 3000m Individual Pursuit in Tokyo, bringing home another Silver medal to add to their tally from the road.

Dunlevy and McCrystal won a further four more World Championship medals on the road, bringing them to 2022 when they won the Women’s B Road Race. At the end of 2022, McCrystal made the difficult decision to step away from piloting Dunlevy on the road and Linda Kelly took her place at the front of the bike.

McCrystal continued to pilot Dunlevy on the track before her retirement from elite level this year. Their final race together in Paris at the Paralympic Games, in front of friends and family, was emotional to say the least. One more medal to add to the collection, and the knowledge that over the last decade they have shown what’s possible, they broke records and broke down barriers, demonstrating to the next generation just what can be achieved.

Although McCrystal has stepped back from the highest level, Dunlevy, piloted by Kelly, continues to dominate. The pair picked up two Paralympic medals on the road – one Gold and one Silver – and retained their double World Champion status, winning the Individual Time Trial and Road Race at the 2024 World Championships.
