Cycling Ireland welcomes yesterday’s joint announcement from Sport Ireland and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, providing €27 million in funding for high performance sport in Ireland for 2025. This funding, up from €25 million in 2024 is particularly welcome as we enter a new Olympic cycle and look toward LA28.

The Minister for Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan, and the Minister of State for Sport and Postal Policy, Charlie McConalogue announced annual investment for 2025 in the High Performance programme of €27m that will be distributed through Sport Ireland.

This record investment will continue to support high performance athletes and the National Sports Policy aim to increase Ireland’s target medal haul.

As the High Performance Strategy enters its fifth year of implementation, Sport Ireland will continue its focus on coaching, the athlete voice, and governance.

The High Performance system has now entered a new phase, the LA cycle, which presents a renewed opportunity for further performance and system success.

Cycling Ireland’s High Performance Director Iain Dyer welcomed the funding: “Cycling Ireland is delighted to receive our highest multi-annual funding package ever ahead of the LA Olympic and Paralympic Cycle. It’s a testament to the hard work of our athletes and staff that we have created a strong platform from which can perform over the next four years. We have come a long way in the Paris cycle and can look forward to even more beginning with the publication of our new HP strategies in the coming weeks."
