Registration is now open for the 2024 National Cross-country Championships. This event will be held on Saturday/Sunday 20-21 July 2024 at Tonygarrow, County Wicklow hosted by Team WORC. Cross-country National Championships 2024 Preview
It’s all systems go ahead of the 2024 Cross-country National Championships. Hosted by Team WORC, the championships will take place just outside Enniskerry village, Co. Wicklow, on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of July.
The action kicks off on Saturday afternoon, with practice sessions and a series on non-championship youth races. Sunday includes a full schedule of races, sign on open at 9am. Under 14’s will be first up at 10am with racing continuing for the rest of the day.
With high entries across all categories, Sunday will showcase some of the best Irish Cross-country riders and is sure to be a great day out for spectators.
Chris Dawson is the one to watch in the Senior Men, he won in 2023 and will be looking for back-to-back victories. However, he has to contend with Dean Harvey. Harevy finished in second place last year and will want to go one better on Sunday. A total of 16 riders will line out in the Senior Men’s race.
Caoimhe May has shown brilliant form this summer, with some top results in the Cycling Ireland Cross-country National Series, including winning the series, and podium finishes in the British Cycling Cross-country National Series. As if this wasn’t enough, May is also the reigning champion for the last two years and will have her eyes on a third national championship title.
The field for the Senior Women may only include five riders but it is set to be competitive. Ciara MacManus, Fiona Lally, Jean Wilson and Leah McCarthy, won’t make it easy for May.

Rider Briefing
A rider briefing has been provisionally scheduled for 9:30 on Sunday 21 July 2024 in the sign on location.
The briefing will be held by the Chief Commissaire, event organiser and other relevant parties. This briefing will only take place if four or more riders request this meeting to go ahead.
This is a provisional time slot and will not be compulsory for all riders to attend.

2024 Cycling Ireland Downhill National Championships

The 2024 Downhill National Championships takes place on the 20-21 July 2024 at Bree Hill, Co. Wexford hosted by Bree MTB.
2024 Downhill National Championships Preview
Irish National Downhill Championships week is here, as Bree MTB Club welcome the best downhill riders the country has to offer to Bree, Co. Wexford.
Practice and seeding runs on Saturday, July 20th will set the field for race runs on Sunday, July 21st on a challenging course built by Bree MTB Club.
The event will see UCI Downhill World Cup riders Oisin O’Callaghan, Chris Cumming, Jacob Dickson and Henry Kerr take part, giving domestic riders a chance to pit themselves against some of the world’s best.
In the Senior Women’s category Leah Maunsell will be hoping to improve on last year’s second place, with defending champion Meghan Flanagan not competing.
Callum Morris will look to defend his National Championship in the Junior Men.
National Championship races will take place in the following categories: Senior open, Women, Junior men, M30 open, M40 open, M50 open as well as U14 and U16 boys.

Entry open for licence holders with Ireland as their nationality first. If there is still available spaces then the event will be open to non Irish rider and those with leisure licences or no licence.

Expression of Interest for Cross-country and Downhill World Championships 2024

Cycling Ireland and the Off-road Commission are now seeking expression of interest for riders to compete in the upcoming 2024 UCI Downhill (DHI) and Cross-country (XCO) World Championships (including cross-country short course (XCC)).
The championships will be held in Pal Arinsal, Andorra from August 28th to September 1st, 2024.
In 2023, Ireland were well represented at the Championships, which took place in Glasgow as part of the large multi-event UCI World Championships, Oisin O'Callaghan recorded a top result at Fort William, coming home in 12th place in the Downhill.
Riders seeking selection and who meet the UCI eligibility criteria in their event or discipline are invited to complete an expression of interest form by 23:59 on Wednesday, 31st of July 2024.
The Off-road Commission will lead on this with an Expression of Interest process and defined selection criteria. The process is as per the published National Team Selection Policy.
Please note that these championships are not funded through the Cycling Ireland High Performance Unit, and all athletes selected to compete will be required to cover any associated costs.

Selection Criteria
The riders must hold a 2024 UCI competition membership licence with the country code “IRELAND”. Applications should contain results within the last 12 months, 1st of July 2023 to 31st of July 2024.
