UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup Dublin takes place on Sunday, December 1st

Sport Ireland CEO Dr Úna May applauds fans for creating ‘electric atmosphere’

UCI ‘Protected Status’ to attract world’s best riders

Sport Ireland and Cycling Ireland are delighted to welcome the return of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup to Dublin and the Sport Ireland Campus on Sunday, December 1st. Following successful UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup rounds in Dublin in 2022 and 2023 creating an enjoyable atmosphere for riders and fans, the event is back in Ireland as the UCI have awarded the event ‘Protected Status’, meaning world cycling’s governing body will not sanction any top-level races on the event’s weekend.

The crucial new rule will ensure that the best Cyclo-cross riders will consider taking part in what is sure to be a fantastic occasion for all involved. The Dublin event is the second of 12 rounds of the 2024-25 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cups, taking place just a week after the opening round in Antwerp, The Netherlands, on November 24th.

Passionate Fans Supporting The Best Riders In The World

The event will be the third UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup event to take place in Ireland and will once again see thousands of passionate fans descend on the Sport Ireland Campus to show their support for the best riders in the world. With fans travelling from all over Ireland as well as international visitors, the event has generated a strong economic impact on both the local and Greater Dublin Area economies.

A Sport Ireland report on the impact of the 2023 event found that for every Euro organisers spent, €3.13 was returned to the economy. Sport Ireland and Cycling Ireland are proud to contribute to the delivery of what will be another enjoyable event for all the family, champion high-performance sport and the continued development of the Sport Ireland Campus.

Innovative Course And Electric Atmosphere

Sport Ireland Chief Executive Dr Úna May paid tribute to the thousands of fans who helped create an ‘electric atmosphere’ in recent editions: “We're delighted to be able to welcome the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup back to the Sport Ireland Campus again this year. Last year we hosted an exceptional event, with top riders, an innovative course and thousands of fans combining to create an electric atmosphere. We think this year's event will be even more special - thanks to the new rules which are designed to attract even more of the sport's top cyclists.”

“Last year also saw some terrific racing from Irish riders from Junior up to Senior. We’ll be hoping they can give home fans something else to cheer about again this year.”

Great Occasion For The Whole Family

Cycling Ireland CEO James Quilligan paid tribute to the Irish cycling community as he looked forward to another momentous event for the whole family: “Cycling Ireland are incredibly proud to welcome the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup back to Dublin and the Sport Ireland Campus in December. The passion and energy of the Irish cycling community has helped create an already renowned atmosphere as we look forward to a third edition that will be no different.”

“Last year we helped to deliver a top-class event with a purpose-built course, brilliant family-friendly entertainment and amenities for fans as well as a field boasting some of Cyclo-cross' best riders. We had a host of Irish riders flying the flag on the world stage last year and we are sure that this year our fans will have a lot to cheer for in what is sure to be a great occasion for all the family.”
