Having raced as a senior 3 and senior 2 rider last year, Neil Delahaye continued his upward progression when he came out best in today’s Ben McKenna Memorial in Balbriggan.

The Usher IRC competitor was one of the most active in the 72 mile event, going clear with team-mate Greg Swinand, Adrian Pretorius (Murphy and Gunn) and Tim O’Regan (Myhome.ie/Cycleways) in the second half of the race. These three were hauled back by those chasing behind but Delahaye was able to solo to a fine victory, crossing the line well clear of Adam Petrie Armstrong (Northern Dave Kane CC) and Ken Norgrove (All Systems Dublin Wheelers).

Stephen McKenna (Audi East Antrim) and Andre Engerman (St. Tiernans CC) finished together for fourth and fifth places, while Swinand hung on for sixth.

Last year Delahaye made the most of his handicap as a senior 3 rider to win Balbriggan CC’s companion race, the Harry Reynolds Memorial. This time round, the now-first category competitor beat others of the same level to take the main event, while Paul Healion (Murphy Gunn/Newlyn Group) showed the benefits of his recent racing in Australia to succeed Delahaye in Saturday’s Harry Reynolds race. Tim O’Regan and Adrian Hederman (Murphy Gunn/Newlyn Group) were second and third.
