With Bike Week 2024 fast approaching Cycling Ireland is delighted to share a number events taking place during and after Bike Week. The events cover all disciplines and offer a brilliant opportunity to try a new discipline or get involved in cycling for the first time.

Events in Connacht


Grass Track Cycling and Cycling Skills
Date: Monday, 20th of May Time: 6pm

Location: St Pat's Primary School, Castlebar, Co. Mayo

Details: A fun and inclusive event aimed at children of all abilities aged 8 to 14. Fun races on a grass oval track, skills zone and more.

Pump Track Open Day
Date: Wednesday, 29th of May Time: 6:30pm

Location: Fair Green, Ballinrobe, Co. Galway

Details: A fun and inclusive event aimed at children 8+, teens and adults of all abilities

Grass Track Cycling, Come-and-Try Off Road Cycling & Cycling Skills
Date: Friday, 31st of May Time: 5pm

Location: Fair Green, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway

Details: A fun and inclusive event aimed at children of all abilities aged 8 to 14. Fun races on a grass oval track, skills zone and more.

Para-cycling Come and Try Session
Date: Wednesday, 12th of June

Location: Westport, Co. Mayo

Details: A great opportunity open to all to come and try Para-cycling. There will be solo bikes, tandems and hand cycles available.

Dublin Mountain Cycling Festival
Date: Saturday, 11th of May Time: 10am

Location: GAP, Glencullen, Co. Dublin

Details: A fantastic family event that will include a range of cycling activities with refreshments. A family event for all ages and abilities.

BMX Come and Try Session
Date: Saturday, 11th of May Time: 12pm

Location: Ratoath BMX Track, Fairyhouse Road, Ratoath, Co. Meath

Details: An introduction to BMX for all ages and abilities. Bikes and helmets will be provided (please wear long sleeves, long trousers and gloves). Aimed at beginners with little to no experience of BMX – open to all ages and abilities.

Mountain Bike Fest
Date: Sunday, 12th of May Time: 10am

Location: GAP, Glencullen, Co. Dublin

Details: Skills session with free uplifts and bike hire. Aimed at children and teens over the age of 12

BMX Come and Try Session
Date: Sunday, 12th of May Time: 12pm

Location: Ratoath BMX Track, Fairyhouse Road, Ratoath, Co. Meath

Details: An introduction to BMX for all ages and abilities. Bikes and helmets will be provided (please wear long sleeves, long trousers and gloves). Aimed at beginners with little to no experience of BMX – open to all ages and abilities.

BMX Teenage and Adult Session

Para-cycling Come and Try Session
Date: Wednesday, 15th of May

Location: New Ross Greenway, Co Wexford

Details: Seamus Wall and Cycling Ireland Para-cycling Development Coach Marcin Mizgajski will be in attendance for the presentation of new trikes, also a tandem and hand bike New Ross Greenway cycle.

Beginner Cycle
Date: Saturday, 18th of May Time: 12pm

Location: Castleknock, Dublin 15

Details: Take part in a social cycle with Castleknock Cycling Club with refreshments after the spin. Newcomers with a reasonable level of fitness to ride 20km (1hour).

BMX Come and Try Session
Date: Saturday, 18th of May Time: 12pm

Location: Lucan BMX Track, St. Catherine’s Park, Lucan, Co. Dublin

Details: An introduction to BMX for all ages and abilities. Bikes and helmets will be provided (please wear long sleeves, long trousers and gloves). Aimed at beginners with little to no experience of BMX – open to all ages and abilities.

Kilkenny Bike Fest
Date: Saturday and Sunday, 18th and 19th of May Time: 10am

Location: Kilkenny Castle, Co. Kilkenny

Details: A fantastic family event that will include a pump track demo, kids skills area, balance bike area, grass track cycling, introduction to road cycling, Watt Bike power challenge, freewheel challenge, face painting, scavenger hunt, music, food and drinks. A family event for all ages and abilities.

Bike Town
Date: Sunday, 19th of May Time: 11am – 4pm

Location: Sundrive Velodrome, Eamonn Ceannt Park, Crumlin, Co. Dublin

Details: Bike Expo, Bike Tattoos, Free Safety Checks, Puncture Repair Lessons, Pedal Party, Accessible Bike Fleet Showcase, Trishaw Rides, Test Ride e-Cargo Bikes, Bike Polo Demo, Bike Jumble, Trade Stands. Family friendly and people of all ages and abilities.

BMX Sunday Funday:
Date: Sunday, 19th of May Time: 11am – 2pm

Location: Courtown BMX Track, Riverchapel Community Complex, Co. Wexford. Y25 A3TO

Details: Sunday Funday with local youth groups and some live music and refreshments. Aimed at beginners and families with little to no experience of BMX, open to all.

BMX Come and Try Session

Grass Track Cycling and Racing, and Para Come and Try
Date: Sunday, 26th of May - Time: 10am

Location: Gormanstown, Co. Meath

Details: A fun and inclusive event to showcase grass track cycling at the Community Games National Championships. A family event for all ages and abilities. Cycling Ireland Para-cycling Development Coach Marcin Mizgajski will be on hand for a para-cycling come and try session, open to all interested in para-cycling.

Sporsability Day
Date: Sunday, 26th of May Time: 3pm - 5pm

Location: Ghaelscoil Sliabh Rua, Ballyogan Road, Dublin 18

Details: . This is a fun free event to promote inclusion and accessible sport and activity in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown and the surrounding areas. Those showcasing on the day are welcome to bring any information or promotion material that they wish to share including flyers/ leaflets, pop ups etc. A table and display boards will be provided for each club and set up is from 2.15pm. There will also be an opportunity to demonstrate some activities in ‘come and try’ taster sessions. Attendees to the event will include people with a disability, families, local disability services, coaches and anyone who has an interest in disability sports.

Grass Track Cycling
Date: Saturday, 11th of May Time: 12pm

Location: Gallery Park, Cooraclare Road, Kilrush, Co. Clare. V15 VX36

Details: A fun and inclusive event for children of all ages and abilities. Fun races held on an oval grass track. All types of bikes can be used. Aimed at children and families of all ages and abilities.

Family Cycle and Para-cycling Come and Try
Date: Sunday, 12th of May Time: 9:30am, Para-cycling come and try session starting at 10am

Location: Barefield, Co. Clare

Details: A fun family cycle aimed a school children and their parents to take part in a 15km cycle between Barefield and Crusheen. Adaptive bicycles such as hand cycles and tandems will be available on the day. Open to children and their parents of all ages and abilities including any person with a physical or developmental impairment. Cycling Ireland Para-cycling Development Coach Marcin Mizgajski will be on hand for a para-cycling come and try session, open to all interested in para-cycling.

Clonmel Cycling Festival
Date: Sunday, 12th of May Time: 12pm - 4pm

Location: Clonmel Sports Hub, TUS, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary

Family Cycle
Date: Friday, 17th of May Time: 7pm

Location: Cloghan Centre, Cloghanbeg, Co. Donegal. F93HK29

Details: A 5km cycle for all the family with refreshments afterwards. Suitable for all ages and abilities

Women Only Cycle
Date: Sunday, 19th of May Time: 10am

Location: The Reelin Bridge Bar, Garvan, Cloghan, Co. Donegal. F93R821

Details: A 25km cycle for women only with lunch afterwards. A reasonable level of fitness is required as we will be cycling through beautiful, rural Donegal and traversing some of our lovely Donegal hills.

MTB Ride
Date: Saturday, 25th of May Time: 10am

Location: Cloghan Centre, Cloghanbeg, Co. Donegal. F93HK29

Details: A 25km road/rough terrain cycle with lunch afterwards. A reasonable level of fitness is required as we will be cycling on road and through rough terrain; this is a mixed group event
