ITS ONLY A GAME SHOW

It’s eviction time again in the Big Brother house. The game-show that has attracted millions of fans in the U.K has seen numbers drop steadily for it’s Irish version since the early 80’s, when it was at it’s peak. In those days, country boy Sean and city slicker Stephen were the most popular duo in the house, while Martin, Paul and Laurence also contributed their fair share to attract the massive audience.

This year the rules are different. The six winners from this country will go forward to another competition in Australia, next month. Here they will face more cameras, more journalists, more prying eyes than ever before. This competition will be hosted by Sydney and will involve contestants from almost every country in the world. Michelle, the tall dark, handsome, Italian champion will be there. Axel, the quiet, soft spoken, Belgian winner will be there. Richard the French housewives favourite will represent his nation. The once cocky, but now matured Lance from Texas will be there. But who will represent Ireland?

At the start of the year there were a lot of people in the Big Brother house. As the year went on, Bill from Meath, Stephen from Bray, Thomas from Banbridge, Eugene from Listowel, Michael from Galway, David from Roundwood and the other David from Mayo were all voted out of the house. Morgan from Athlone and Mark from Sligo left the house due to illness, but may have been voted out anyway. Richie from Dublin, the head of the house – as chosen by Big Brother – used his casting vote a number of times until there were just seven left in the house. The latest episode has seen Richie leave the house, of his own free will after being seen to pass around a piece of paper with Johns name on it. Big Brother decided this was against the rules and have replaced Richie with another male, Peter.

At the moment there are seven in the house, with six to travel in search of the ultimate prize. Ciaran from Waterford, David from Belfast, Robin from Dublin and Tony from Dublin are sure to travel, as is Deirdre from the U.S.A, who qualified for the game through the parentage rule.

Big Brother has announced the last two nominations for eviction. They are John and Peter. One must leave the house. On Saturday next, the 26th of August, at 2.30 p.m, in the West County Hotel in Chapelizod the audience will get their chance to cast their votes. Big Brother will be watching.  Just remember this : It’s only a game show! Or is it ?
