M. Donnelly Fun Cycle

Martin Donnelly asks Gay Howard to ride next SundayBy Gerard Cromwell

In conjunction with Cycling Ireland's inaugural Bike Week, Stamullen M. Donnelly will promote a fun cycle in aid of Muscular Dystrophy in Clonee on Sunday September 1st. The fun cycle will begin at 11am from the Grasshopper Inn and will cover a ten mile loop taking in Batterstown and Dunboyne before finishing back where it began for some light refreshments.

"The whole idea is for people who haven't been on a bike in ages or people who just want to have a bit of fun to come along and raise money for a good cause at the same time." says Martin Donnelly. "I know it's only ten miles to a racing cyclist but to the rest of us it could take over an hour." he laughed. "Everybody is welcome to join the ride and donations are very welcome for Muscular Dystrophy. Some of the (Stamullen M. Donnelly) lads are going to come along and hopefully they'll be able to push the rest of us!"

The route is mainly flat and there will be a water stop along the way, so there is no excuse. Former FBD Milk Ras winner Philip Cassidy will be taking part as will the M. Donnelly Stamullen Road Club and there is even a rumour that Stamullen M. Donnelly manager Gabriel Howard is going to brush the cobwebs off his bike and join in. "I'm trying to get Gay to ride," says Martin "so the lads can shout at him for a change. He hasn't been on a bike in years but that's what its all about. I just wanted to do something during National Bike Week to get people out for a spin, a bit of fresh air and a friendly chat along the way."
